MITTA is the first company in the industry to recycle masks

The initiative is the product of an alliance with the Technological Development Unit (UDT), of the University of Concepción (UdeC).
It is a pioneering pilot project in Chile, to transform used masks into raw material for the manufacture of products and which starts initially in Lo Campino, and the branches in Concepción and Los Angeles.
Seeking to reduce the nearly 170 tons that Chile produces for this concept, our company will join the project “Recycling and Recovery of Disposable Masks”, which leads the Technological Development Unit (UDT) of the University of Concepción (UdeC). This innovative program allows that, after a sanitization treatment at high temperatures, the masks are ground and then transformed into pellets, raw material to make products such as trays, cutlery holders and planters, among others. “The idea is to be able to collect as many as possible, whether it is the ones we use here, or the ones at home, and for the collaborators to deposit them in our container,” explains Andrés Ortuzar, an expert in Prevention and the Environment at MITTA.
